Academies for AP Teachers
The Academies, a 26-hour course, provide experienced AP teachers the opportunity to delve deeply into specific course content with higher education faculty and to connect to their discipline’s current work.
All courses are held on the Rice campus. Courses and master teachers are subject to change.

Instructors: Facilitated by master teachers, each course is typically composed of a variety of presentations by distinguished faculty from Rice and other institutions of higher education.
When: June 27-30, 2017; 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
Where: Courses are held on the Rice University campus.
Tuition Per Course:
Early registration: $499 (until March 27)
Standard registration: $549 (March 28-June 12)
Late registration: $599 (after June 12)
- Tuition includes course binder, parking and lunch.
Integration into AP Teaching: Each Academy master teacher, working with university faculty members, will facilitate classroom conversations to help teachers incorporate the advanced content into their AP® classroom.
Discussions, Readings, Collegiality: Participants who choose an Academy should be prepared to participate in engaging, relevant and immersive discussions with the master teacher, university faculty members and fellow participants. Participants may also be given required readings before and during the course.
Professional Development Credits: Participants will receive up to 26 hours of Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits or 2.6 Continuing Education Units (CEU). SBEC Continuing Professional Education Provider Number 500571
Note: The Rice University Academies for AP Teachers is not approved by TAGT for GT hours, but some districts will allow a limited number of hours to be applied for update hours. Please contact your district for specifics.
Acknowledgment of enrollment: Once you register for a course through our online registration system, you will be enrolled in the course. An enrollment acknowledgement will immediately be sent to the email address on your account showing payment confirmation or including instructions for submitting payment via check. In some cases, a course may be full, and you will have the option of getting on a waiting list. A waiting list is automatically created for a course once it has filled to capacity. If a spot should become available in that filled course, and you are next on the waiting list, you will receive an email to the email address on file with instructions for completing registration for that specific course. IMPORTANT: Please do not book travel until enrollment is confirmed.
Air travel: Those making plane reservations should choose departure times after 6 p.m. on the last day of the Academy. See Traveling to Houston for more information.
Housing: There are several hotel options near campus, and most offer complimentary shuttle service to/from campus. See the Hotel List for more information.
Meals: Lunch will be served on campus daily and is included in the cost of tuition.
