AP English Language Online Exam Review

This online course is designed to help you prepare for your AP English Language and Composition Exam. Taught by master AP English teacher Matt Frost, this short course will assist your preparation by providing a review of often misunderstood content and test taking skills and strategies. Additionally, it offers review resources, and most importantly, the ability to interact with a master teacher to ask questions and clarify your understanding of the material.

Topics to be addressed:

Module One:

  • Multiple-Choice Questions
  • Module One Objectives
    • After completing module one, students will develop an understanding of:
      • The number of reading passages to expect, the genres those passages will come from, and the number of questions accompanying each passage
      • The type/focus of the questions and how those questions will be phrased
      • Guidelines for budgeting time and how to work through the multiple choice section
      • Strategies that can be used to read each passage
      • Strategies that can be used to answer the questions

Module Two:

  • The Rhetorical Analysis Essay
  • Module Two Objectives
    • After completing module one, students will develop an understanding of:
      • The different tasks they may be expected to perform based on the wording of a prompt
      • Effective ways to budget their time
      • How “working the prompt” can provide them with valuable information to help their writing
      • What material they should be looking for as they closely read a passage
      • Effective ways they can translate their close reading annotations to the essay itself


Matthew Fros
t is currently an instructional coach for English at Summer Creek High School in Houston, Texas. During his time as a classroom teacher from 2002 to 2015, Mr. Frost taught Pre-AP English, AP English Language & Composition and English Literature & Composition. In collaboration with his colleagues at Summer Creek High School, Mr. Frost worked to develop an AP curriculum from the ground up. Mr. Frost has a bachelor’s in English and Art History from Rice University.
