Essential Skills in World Geography
June 18-21, 2012
This four day workshop is designed to assist 9th grade world geography teachers with the implementation of more rigorous course standards. The workshop will include strategies on how to increase project-based learning, technology use, and self-guided research in the classroom. Additionally, advanced topics in world geography and human geography will be explored to provide an in-depth understanding about contemporary topics in geography.
Who should attend: World geography teachers
When and where: June 18-21, 2012, 8:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m., Rice University campus
Tuition: $450 by April 13 ($495 after April 13). Tuition includes materials, parking and lunch.
Course led by: Linda Hammon with guest speaker, Dr. Jeff Lash.
Registration: Download registration form. Limited space is available for the program. Register early to ensure your spot. Only completed forms accompanied by check, credit card information, or copy of a purchase order or direct pay form are accepted for registration.
Acknowledgment of enrollment: Once your completed enrollment is received, you will either be enrolled in the conference or placed on a waiting list if the conference has filled. In either case, you will receive written notification from Rice at your home address within 15 days of receipt of your registration. Please contact our office, 713-348-6031, if you do not receive notification from us. You may need to check with your school or district administrative office to ensure the registration was sent.
Conference cancellation policy: Events such as insufficient enrollment, instructor illness, room conflicts or inclement weather may require a schedule adjustment or cancellation. We will notify registrants of any change in the published information.
Refunds: Full refunds for the event tuition will be issued for cancellations received via email or fax by April 13, 2012. No refunds will be issued after April 13. Checks submitted to Rice University for payment may be converted into an electronic funds transfer from your account. There is a $30 charge for all checks returned for insufficient funds.

Airport transportation: Transportation to and from the airport can be arranged through Super Shuttle www.supershuttle.com or (800) BLUE-VAN (258-3826). Prices range from $19 one-way from Hobby Airport to $24 one-way from Bush Intercontinental Airport.
